200 \\ 3 Scriptures to Simplify Your Life as a Stepmom

The Empowered Stepmom Hosted by Jen Rogers, CPLC

When you think about your life as a stepmom, on a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate the complexity of being in this role? 1, being quite simple, and 10, being quite complex.

Have you ever heard the expression; Complexity is the enemy of execution? When I first became a stepmom, I'd give my personal rating about a 3. I knew there were things I didn't know, but figured I was smart enough to figure them out, given my decades of experience at life.

I couldn't have been more wrong. Circumstances, in and of themselves, were simple. Like what time is bedtime? Do the kids have phones in their rooms? Do the kids have phones at all? When do we go on dates? Those are all simple. The complexity of course, comes in when you mix in all the people.

In today's episode, number 200 of the Empowered Stepmom Podcast, I'll share three key go to scriptures to keep you grounded so you can simplify the inherent complexities of co parenting your kids, his kids, and those ours babies. And yes, if you're dealing with a difficult ex, these scriptures are exactly what you need to remind yourself of not only who you are, but whose you are.

Acknowledging the complexity is the beginning of simplifying your life. If complexity is the enemy of execution, then who is the enemy?

Where does complexity come from? What is the origin of complexity? Well, I would venture to say that complexity is just another name for Satan. Satan is a one trick pony. The thing is, is that his deception, his ability to lie comes in many different forms.

And I think complexity is one of those forms. So the easiest way to counteract complexity, of course, is to simplify things, That's why we break big decisions down into small chunks, or when we're dealing with a very difficult problem, it helps us build confidence when we say, okay, what's one thing that we know for sure?

What's one small action step that we could take right now to reduce the complexity? Because when we look at the whole enchilada, it's a pretty big enchilada. There's that expression that when you take a bite of an elephant, you take one bite at a time. That's what we're going to do here. We're going to take one bite at a time.

So for those areas where your life feels more complex, this may be a great episode for you to journal think of an area in your life where you are experiencing complexity when you think about it What do you feel

What emotions come to mind? Overwhelm? Frustration? Confusion? You're not alone. In fact, we all experience those things. So the first scripture today will definitely help in that. Let's take a look at Psalm 28 verses 7 and 8. The Lord is my strength and my shield.

My heart trusts in Him, and He helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song, I praise Him. Now, I don't know if you've ever tried to grumble and sing praises to the Lord at the same time. It doesn't really work. You're going to choose one or the other. And the best way to overcome overwhelmed frustration and confusion, or complexity, is to praise God for who he is, that we are reminded that in him, that is where our strength comes from.

He shields us from evil. And in those cases where we experienced temptation, he will always provide a way out because he is our strength!

The second scripture for today is Proverbs 16 verse 3. Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.

Listen, I know when we said, I do, we didn't know what we were getting into. And that's where a lot of learning hard and fast comes in. When we execute Proverbs 16, three, when we commit to the Lord, whatever we do, we're committing our stepmama journey to him. We are asking him to come in and to help us understand what it is that he has called us to do, and he will establish your plans.

What are your plans? What are you dreaming about? What kind of family do you want to have? What are you willing to do to get there?

And that ties in right into our third scripture for today, which is from 1st Peter, chapter 4, verse 10. Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms. Hey, here on the Empowered Stepmom Podcast, we often talk about the anointing and the appointing that God has given.

It is no surprise to him that you are in the family that you are in. In fact, he has entrusted this role, this stewardship role to you, and he has given you gifts He is calling you to be faithful a faithful steward of God's grace.

Have you ever thought about that? not just as a stepmom, but as a woman, have you thought about what does that mean to be a faithful steward of God's grace in its various forms? Well, we certainly have lots of opportunities for grace in our role. There's no doubt about it.

But we're not just this role. We're so much more than that. God has created us for so much more than that. And often when I'm coaching women, what they discover is they've left so much of themselves behind because they're so focused on all of this complexity of this overwhelm and this frustration as a stepmom, that they lose sight of themselves.

Is that you? Have you lost sight of yourself? Listen, taking the time to journal and reading God's word is your most powerful weapon against the lie of complexity. Your second most powerful weapon is to get the mentorship and community that you need to move forward.
